Sigh...

Seemingly corrupt powers that are currently in office have their minds set against squashing quiet anyone who wants to bring about any positive change...even someone who would forward their same ideas, just more effectively than the guy currently in office. There was a meeting yesterday in which a powerful official (who is only powerful because he controls the money) raised about $10,000 for the other candidate. He has made it clear to any that would support Ryan, that they would lose all support, money and backing they get from him or his colleagues should they do so. Ryan's uncle, who is currently a legislator, who nominated him at convention has basically been all but shunned for doing so. Because he stuck out his neck for us, he is now on the chopping block. He will win in his district this term, but he will no longer be able to pass any bills because, again, the corrupt people in power will do all they can to squash him too... even though he has been VERY effective his last two terms.

How are good people expected to run, to stand up for what is right, to fight and defend and serve when there are people (who are supposed to be the good guys) standing vehemently in the way. This one particular individual has never even spoken with Ryan. He has no idea what Ryan can offer or what he has to say. He is just assuming that Ryan is the bad guy and is doing everything he can to prevent his progress.

I am so angry, so hurt, so disenfranchised. We innocently and apparently naively jumped in with both feet hoping to make some positive changes... and now I find myself cynical and angry. We believe the majority of our district wants change. Everyone we talk to is ready to see the incumbent gone, so we are counting on "the people" not "the power" or "the money" to speak loudly and clearly. We haven't given up and we will fight hard until the nominee has been voted on.

We know the Democratic-nominee. He is in our ward... his daughter takes piano lessons from me... Should the incumbent end up as the Republican nominee, I'm afraid I will definitely be thinking long and hard about who I am going to vote for come November...

Grrrrr.....
